Credit When Credit Is Due
Credit When Credit is Due (CWCID) is the education component of your debt management plan (DMP).
We ask that you COMPLETE YOUR CWCID TESTS WITHIN 90 DAYS of joining the DMP.
WHY IS EDUCATION IMPORTANT? We want to give you as many tools as possible to help you succeed with both the DMP and your financial future. While your counselor is available to help at any time, he/she can't step into your shoes and take over your finances. In order to give you a stronger background in working with credit, CCCS of MT provides you with CWCID when signing up for the DMP.
WHY CWCID? CWCID provides a wealth of information on working with credit and money management in a completely non-judgemental manner. We really feel this program is a tool that can help, no matter what stage of life you are in.
THE PROCESS... Complete the 12 tests in the back of your CWCID book. The tests are designed to help you remember the most important points of each chapter, so feel free to use your book as you go. Each lesson should take 45 minutes to an hour to complete. You are welcome to complete the program in the comfort of your own home (self-study) or to attend class. For a class schedule check this website or call your local CCCS office. There is no additional charge to attend class, just let your counselor know that you want to attend and bring your CWCID book to class.
Once you have completed ALL 12 tests, send your sign off sheet and tests to your counselor. The sign off sheet is also located in the back of your CWCID book, before test one. Please make sure your name, address and CWCID registration number are on the top of your sign off sheet! Your registration number is located in the white box on the spine of your book. Please write only ONE NAME on your sign off sheet. Only one person can be registered per book. If you are married and would both like to be registered, you will need to purchase an additional book. Current DMP clients may purchase a second book for 1/2 price, $25. The education department will then correct the tests and send a congratulations letter when you've passed all 12 tests. If you need to re-take a test, your counselor will contact you. Your CWCID tests will be placed in your client file. If you would like to review them, please contact your counselor. Upon graduating, your name, address and registration number will be forwarded to ACCE (the organization responsible for CWCID). ACCE keeps a database of all graduates and will send a congratulations letter as well. Your information will NOT be sold or given to any outside agency. Occasionally, you may receive a survey asking for your evaluation of the CWCID program.
GRADUATE BENEFITS...
CCCS Fee: Once you pass all 12 tests, that month's CCCS fee will be applied as an extra payment to the creditor of your choice. If you do not choose a creditor, we will apply the fee as an extra payment to the account with the highest interest rate. You will still need to make your full DMP payment for the month.
From ACCE: With your congratulations letter from ACCE, you will also receive: **A registration card. This card may allow you to take advantage of special benefits offered to CWCID graduates by participating local lenders. **Three cards to add a positive statement to your credit report. By completing the enclosed cards and mailing them to the three major credit reporting agencies, you will be able to add a positive statement to your credit report. Those pulling your credit report will then be able to recognize your commitment to improving your financial future.
Confidence: Credit When Credit is Due doesn't have all of the answers, but you will gain a strong background in how credit works and what is required of you when you borrow money. You can then feel confident about making good choices about your money, recognizing if you're headed for money troubles, or taking steps to improve your credit.
